“Stop and notice what is happening around you. Then ask yourself, “What is this teaching me?” and gently allow an answer to present itself.”
When my daughter was a toddler she took ballet every week. A dance class made up entirely of two years olds is chaos. Most of the time, my daughter would roll on the floor or hop around the room, completely ignoring her teacher, Ms. Robin. Ms. Robin would go over the dance no matter how the children were acting. The routine didn’t change, and she would remind the little dancers to plie, then passé over and over again. She reassured all the parents that this was a part of the process and that showing up consistently does work. Let’s just say I had my doubts.
I remember making dinner one day and saying, “Plie,” just like Ms. Robin did in class. Imagine my surprise when Inara actually did it, and did it correctly! Turns out she was listening to Ms. Robin. She even did a passé, too. I was in shock, and Inara was beaming proudly.
Isn’t life like this, too? You get into a new routine. You begin learning something new. Maybe you start working with a mentor or a coach, and it seems like none of it is working at first. Then, all of sudden things start to click. You know more than you thought you knew, and you start to make lots of progress.
As you think about centering your self-care or redefining what leadership means to you, you might feel overwhelmed. Keep taking small steps. Keep showing up. Trust the process.
Take a moment to reflect: Where do you need to learn to trust the process in your life?
Look forward to connecting soon,
