I was on Instagram and scrolled to this post from Myleik Teele:
As a mother, this one hit home. It was a much-needed reminder that I don’t have to show anyone I can do it all (or explain either). In this phase with young kids, this means—fewer overnight trips for work and play, weekends full of playing with kids, a messier house, and always looking for comfy clothes and shoes. Being a mother isn’t something, I have to conceal. Raising my kids is an intentional part of my life. This knowing, and honoring has freed me up. I don’t feel guilty about saying no and am more present with life (even on the hardest days).
You can replace motherhood with something else. Maybe it’s being a caregiver, advancing your career, or navigating a health condition. Whatever it is, make sure to honor that part of your identity by setting boundaries and managing expectations of yourself during this time. You don’t have to do it all. That part of your life is a meaningful part of who you are —even if it’s complicated and messy. Even if it requires you to take some other things off your plate.
The kindest thing you can do is love and accept where you are right now.
Sincerely,
Kandice
